Match Report

So close and yet so far as Stainborough just lose out in their cup tie with Darton.

Having been put into bat Stainborough made an excellent start despite losing an early wicket. Jake Malkin had to retire after hitting an unbeaten 31. Jamie Gibson continued before being caught on 30. Ben Armitage and Ryan Johnson made good runs late in the innings to set Darton a target of 87.

Peter Kaskiewicz took two wickets in the first over of the Darton innings and when Elliot Mann took a wicket in the next, Darton were in trouble at 2-3. However, S. Hawley (22) and C. Mackie (17) brought them back into the match. With wickets falling at regular intervals a close finish was on the cards. At 83-9, 4 runs were still needed for victory. However, after surviving a couple of close shaves, J. Bullock hit 2 runs off the last delivery of the 19th over to scramble home. Stainborough were left to rue the 22 extras in the Darton total.
