Match Report

Stainborough put up a spirited fight in their first ever 11-a-side match with Darton.

After being put into bat Darton made a steady start with J. Gibson taking 2-4 in 3 overs. However, J. Holmes accelerated the scoring by hitting 4 boundaries and a 6, before retiring on 30 n.o. Tight bowling and good fielding then restricted the home side to 76 off their 16 overs.

In reply Stainborough got off to the worst possible start when a mis-judged run caused the loss of the first wicket without a run on the board. M. Grimshaw and E. Mann consolidated by seeing off the opening bowlers but runs were difficult against good bowling. B. Armitage (12) and J. Gibson 11 n.o. gave Stainborough hope but they were always behind the required run rate. In the end they had to settle for a total of 55, for the loss of just 4 wickets.
