Match Report

Stainborough were again involved in a nail biting finish in their match with local rivals Dodworth.

Dodworth were invited to bat first and lost an early wicket to an excellent bowl from Sam French. Stainborough continued to bowl well and made it very difficult for Dodworth to score runs. Both Sam French and Josh Abson did not concede a single run off their 2 overs. Only the final pairing of Simmons and McLee managed to find the gaps, but when Elliot Mann took a wicket with the final delivery of the innings the Dodworth total had been restricted to 216.

In reply Stainborough got off to a good start with Elliot Mann and William Denton adding 18 runs before they lost two wickets in their final over. Josh Rennison and Curtis Parker batted sensibly and added a further 12 runs to ensure that Stainborough had already passed their target. Peter Kaskiewicz and Josh Abson then added a further 5 runs but the loss of another wicket ensured a close finish.

The final pairing of Matthew Grimshaw and Sam French knew that they only had to defend their wicket to secure the win. This was comfortably achieved until the last bowl of the third over, when Sam French was bowled. This changed the entire game with Stainborough now needing to score 5 runs to win off the last over. Matthew Grimshaw defended the first three balls before hitting over the top to pick up 2 runs. A single was taken off the penultimate ball leaving 2 runs required to win off the last ball. French put bat to ball and Grimshaw scrambled through for a single to tie the match.
