Match Report
|
| |
For the second time this season,
Stainborough posted a large total against
Royston, only for the weather to intervene.
Royston won the toss and put Stainborough
into bat on what looked an interesting wicket,
dampened by a heavy shower just prior to
the start of play. Royston took advantage
of the conditions and had Stainborough reeling
at 22-3. However, Paul Brown battled through
and as the wicket improved, he dominated
some wayward bowling. A steady supply of
replacement balls were required as they
were frequently despatched in to neighbouring
gardens. Brown eventually became the third
Stainborough batsmen this season to hit
a century against Royston, with his innings
of 122 including 18 fours and 3 sixes. Ged
McInerny (33) played the anchor role in
a 132 run partnership with Brown, taking
the total beyond 180 to pick up maximum
batting points. Phil Campbell hit 13 off
the last over to take the final total to
236-8. J. Ledger returned figures of 3-41
for the home side.
The skies darkened during the tea interval,
and heavy rain prevented any resumption
in play.
The result sees Stainborough maintain an
11 point lead at the top of the league,
whilst Royston remain second bottom and
embroiled in a relegation battle.
