Match Report
|
| |
Batting first, Stainborough posted
a seasons best total of 294-5 despite having
several regulars unavailable.
Chris Hall (94) and Kevin Grimshaw (70)
took advantage of an excellent batting track
to get the home side off to a great start
with an opening partnership of 147 off just
25 overs. Richard Grange (44) and John Hall
(41) continued the high rate of scoring
to post an impressive total of 294. R. Ponder
taking 3-70 for Askern.
A flurry of boundaries at the start of
Askern's reply, signalled their intentions
with N. Wilson (41) keeping up with the
required run rate in the early stages of
the innings. However, the regular fall of
wickets set Askern back with Ged McInerny
3-42 and Luke Selwood 3-57 taking the wickets.
When M. Wilson (68) was out stumped by stand-in
keeper Richard Grange, dreams of reaching
their target was over. Despite applying
the pressure in the final overs, the batsmen
held out to deny Stainborough maximum points
and reaching 225-8 at the close.
