Stainborough were surprisingly put into bat and with openers J. Pepper (42) and C. Hall (42) making good runs, Monk Bretton were beginning to rue their decision. P. Brown (29) pushed the score along before being the first of two suicidal run outs. Stainborough then took full advantage of the weary fielding side with K. Grimshaw (27) and R. Grange (51 n.o.) smashing 88 from the last 10 overs to leave the score at 240-6 off their allotted overs. M. Wainwright (2-48) and C. Brown (2-45) had the only success with the ball.

P. Copping (26) and C. Brown (34) made a good early response, but Monk Bretton were never going to reach their target. D. Exley (3-24) and J. Pepper (2-19) reduced the visitors to 125-7. With the overs running out Stainborough sacrificed runs in an attempt to take the final wickets but they hung on by reaching 156-8 at the close.
