Match Report
|
| |
Electing to bat first, Stainborough made
steady progress reaching 57-1 after 23 overs.
However, the fall of Jonathan Pepper (28)
and Richard Umbers (31) in quick succession
delayed the anticipated acceleration in
the scoring rate. Two further wickets saw
Stainborough at 95-5 and with plenty of
work to do to set a defendable target. It
was left to Dave Kershaw to play a captains
innings of 44 n.o. to steer Stainborough
through to a respectible 162-6 at the completion
of the innings. G. Paish took 4-47 for the
home side.
The Crofton reply followed a similar pattern
with runs coming slowly at first but held
the advantage with wickets in hand. A. Cunliffe
looked the key wicket and he gave no less
than 5 chances, each of which were put to
ground. Taking full advantage of the opportunity
presented to him by the Stainborough fielders
he maintained the 6 runs per over run rate
to finish on 69 n.o. He was assisted by
J. Hobson (17) ,who somehow survived an
early run out appeal, to give Crofton victory
with 9 balls to spare. Ged McInerny picked
up 4 wickets at a cost of 48 runs.
Stainborough were left to reflect on their
several dropped catches which no doubt determined
the outcome of the match.
