Match Report
|
| |
Featherstone won the toss and elected to
bat first. Dave Kershaw and Phil Campbell
opened the bowling for Stainborough and
bowled tightly restricting Featherstone
to 28-1 after the first 14 overs. The introduction
of Kev Grimshaw then brought two further
wickets. First a great bit of fielding saw
Turner (17) run out, and opener M. Smith
(15) followed in the next over. Ged McInerny
continued to build the pressure and took
valuable wickets to leave Featherstone in
trouble at 60-6.
R. Davis then batted with aggression hitting
56 of which 46 came in boundaries. He was
well supported by S McArbon (27) who seemed
to be unfortunately given out LBW. Stainborough
were unable to take the final wicket leaving
Featherstone on 156-9.
In reply, Stainborough made yet another
poor start losing an early wicket. However,
Gilfillan looked in fine form before being
unbelievably given out LBW to a bowl that
was deflected down to fine leg off the outside
of the pad. The wicket keeper moving down
the leg side only seemed to confirm the
poor decision.
Richard Umbers (32) and John Hall (19) moved
the score along to 91-3, before the fall
of two quick wickets gave Featherstone renewed
hope. Stainborough continued to make steady
progress but were falling behind the required
run rate and the regular fall of wickets
maintained the pressure.
With 36 runs needed from the last 5 overs
and only 3 wickets in hand, Stainborough
again suffered from some poor decisions.
First a stumping and then a LBW decision
when the ball had clearly come of the inside
edge of the bat, went against the batting
side. When the final wicket fell in the
final over Stainborough were still 12 runs
short of their target.
