Match Report
|
| |
After two back to back wins on the road,
Stainborough went into the game knowing
that a win would probably put them into
the top three.
Old Sharleston were asked to bat first and
found runs very difficult to come by in
the opening overs. Despite beating the bat
on many occasions, the openers survived
and steadily began to grow in confidence.
At the mid point of the innings the score
had reached 60 without loss, but with plenty
of wickets in hand a high score was expected.
Eric Ball made 22 and Chris Weaver 42, but
the innings revolved around Richard Scott
who made an impressive score of 97. He was
run out in the final over when hoping to
gain the strike in an attempt to reach a
much deserved century. The final target
was set at 183.
The score of 183 was only seen as a "par"
score and Stainborough expected to make
up for the lack of any bowling points. However,
they got off to a terrible start losing
Gilfillan without a run on the board. At
26-3, Stainborough needed to get back into
the game. Richard Umbers (13) and Ged McInerny
(22) moved the score to 60, but the fall
of their wickets in successive overs left
Stainborough in trouble. With the ever increasing
run rate and the steady fall of wickets
Stainborough were never in a position to
challenge and were duly dismissed for a
very disappointing 118. 13 year old Brad
Woods making only his second senior appearance
should be congratulated on a composed innings
and remained undefeated after facing several
overs at the end of the innings.
