Match Report
|
| |
A dismal performance alround, saw Stainborough
take a solitary point from the match.
Having won the toss and electing to bat,
Stainborough had hoped to accumulate a sizeable
target. However, at 22-3 off 13 overs, expectations
had to be lowered. Ged McInerny (30) and
Dean Coupland then set about salvaging the
innings and played sensibly to set up the
score at 85-4 with still 12 overs to be
bowled.
At this point it was anticipated that the
scoring rate would increase and at least
achieve a second bonus point by reaching
140. However, some poor batting saw wickets
tumble with only John Hall (10) managing
double figures. The final score of 115 seemed
well short of a defendable total.
If Stainborough were to get anything from
the game, they had to take early wickets.
In the first ten overs the ball went passed
the bat time and time again and when on
no less than three occassions the edge was
found, the ball was put down. Having been
given a second chance Cator began to play
his shots and with the Stainborough heads
down the score accelerated to 84-0.
The highlight of the innings was when James
Umbers bowled to Cator who confidently punched
the ball with superb timing through the
leg side. Chris Hall, fielding at square
leg, dived full length to his right and
caught the ball at full stretch inches from
the ground. The "Catch of the Season",
sparked a bit of life back into the Stainborough
attack, and James Umbers took a further
two wickets before the inevitable winning
run was hit.
