Match Report

A batting collapse saw Stainborough throw away what should have been a comfortable victory. At 72-2 chasing 147 for victory, Stainborough seemed to have been in control of the match. The turning point was the dismissal of Alistair Gilfillan who had batted superbly for his 41, before he got more height than distance on a short pitched delivery and was well caught in the deep. When Chris Hall (15) fell victim to the same fielder shortly afterwards Thorpe Audlin were back in the game.

Wickets continued to tumble and the collapse was complete with just 109 on the board. The last six wickets fell for a mere 17 runs. The wicket, which could be described as a bit of a rollercoaster, had accounted for the earlier dismissal of Richard Umbers (18) when he was in position to hook a short pitched bowl only for the ball to get no higher than the knee roll and was duly given out leg before. However, the wicket was not directly to blame for the fall of any of the final wickets.

Earlier in the day Thorpe Audlin had accumulated a score of 146-9. The uneven bounce made batting a bit of a lottery at times, but it caused more problems for the wicket keeper than the batsmen with "Mr. Extras" top scoring for the hosts. A.Clemo (24), M. Heppinstall (22) and B. Sutton (21) all made useful contributions. Ged McInerny produced a fine spell of bowling taking 3 wickets for 8 runs in his 11 overs, with Kevin Grimshaw (2-19), Chris Hall (2-36) and John Hall (2-56) the other wicket takers.

Most Valuble Player

Alistair Gilfillan was named MVP for an excellent 41 on a wicket which definitely favoured the bowlers.
