Match Report
|
| |
Streethouse were
asked to bat first and rode their luck in
the early overs, as a number of false shots
fell just short of fielders. However, their
aggresive style ensured that runs were scored
at a good rate. Phil Campbell then made
the breakthrough by first uprooting Hardaker's
leg stump for 9 and then had Garraguan caught
behind for 20. Stainborough then stemmed
the flow of runs with some tight bowling
and were unfortunate not to hang onto a
number of half chances that would have seen
Streethouse in trouble.
Campbell finished with excellent figures
of 2-18 from his maximum 14 overs. Mark
France 2-31 kept things tight before he
was replaced by Ged McInerny who made an
immediate impact with a wicket with his
second delievey. At 96-6 Streethouse were
faltering but R. Johnson (42) and J. Ryrom
(27) chanced their arm and made good runs,
before both falling to McInerny who finished
with 3-15 from 6 overs. D. Kershaw chipped
in with 2-36, and when a powerful drive
back to McInerny was deflected on to the
stumps with the Streethouse tail-ender stranded,
it was innings over with the score on 145.
In reply, Stainborough got off to a poor
start losing no less than 5 wickets for
a mere 19 runs due to a number of poor shots
and a very questionable caught behind decision.
However, McInerny who had witnessed at close
quarters the demise of the Stainborough
batting, was determined to offer stiff resistance
against a vocal Streethouse. He was well
supported by Ray Cooper (14) and together
they began to wear down the Streethouse
attack. The cause was helped when a well
driven shot to the long-off boundary was
picked up by a Streethouse fielder six feet
inside the boudary. However, when he attempted
to toss the ball back to a colleague not
only did the ball somehow cross the boundary
line but comically over the fence and out
of the ground !
With overs running out, a quick Campbell
flurry tried to gain a batting point but
when he fell in the penultimate over it
was left to McInerny to carry his bat for
an unbeaten 42 and therefore denying Streethouse
an outright win.

Most Valuble Player
|
| |
Having
spent all 92 overs on the pitch, Ged McInerny
takes the MVP award for first taking 3-15,
before providing stubborn resistance with
an unbeaten 42 runs. He must also be congratulated
for having to endure 47 overs of verbal diarrhoea
from an ever frustrated fielding side. |
