Match Report
|
| |
Featherstone took
first knock and found it difficult to score
freely against some tight bowling. However,
Stainborough failed to take a number of
chances and at 53-2 at the midway point
through the innings, Featherstone had wickets
in hand to push the scoring along. G.Turner
(69 n.o.) overcome a difficult start to
steer his side to a respectable 157-4. S.
Myhill (24) and M. Davis (21) provided good
support. K. Grimshaw (1-9), M. France (1-35)
and D. Kershaw (1-46) were the Stainborough
wicket takers, whilst P. Campbell had an
excellent 12 over spell which cost a mere
28 runs.
In reply Stainborough got off to a good
start with the openers picking up the runs
at a steady rate. J. Pepper (14) was unlucky
when he found the fielder with a powerful
drive and was shortly followed back to the
pavillion by G. McInerny (10). Stainborough
continued to make good progress, but wickets
always fell when it appeared they had got
the upperhand. When R.Umbers(30) holed out
to deep mid-on, Stainborough still needed
64 to win off the last 10 overs. K. Grimshaw
(22) and M. France (14) kept up with the
required scoring rate leaving Messrs Baughan
and Campbell to hit 23 runs off the last
3 overs. When only 5 runs came off the 44th
over, Featherstone were looking likely winners.
The penultimate over started with two dot
balls but Campbell rose to the occassion
by smashing a four through mid-wicket before
hitting the next ball high over the pavillion
on its way out of the ground. Needing 7
off the last over, Stainborough were in
the driving seat. However, a number of tight
deliveries resulted in 2 runs still needed
for victory off the last ball. J. Baughan
failed to connect with the final delivery,
but Campball was quick out of the blocks
to beat the keeper in the race to the line
to get the one run needed for the tie.
