Tour of Dundee
- September 2005
|
| |
|
| The
following morning, most of the squad were
up early and ready for the trip to Rossie
Priory. It was a glorious setting in the grounds
of the Priory on a late summer's afternoon.
The changing rooms were unusually away from
the main pavilion which meant a trip over
a stile and across a field of charging cows.
Unfortunately, Mr. Hargreaves was again in
the s**t as he walked through an ankle deep
cow pat. |

After the customary team photograph, Stainborough
were invited to take first knock in the 40
over a side match. Richard Mills and guest
tourist Greg Walton opened the batting and
made good runs early in the innings. However,
Anthony Clarke provided the backbone of the
innings by smashing an unbeaten 116, which
saw the ball dispatched to all parts of the
ground. On conclusion of the 40th over, we
had reached an impressive 217-5. Ian Fletcher
had a short innings, where he played a straight
bat but remained scoreless despite turning
down a couple of easy singles.
In reply, Rossie got off to an uncertain start
with both Grimshaw and Campbell taking early
wickets. Wicket Keeper, Greg, was gutted to
miss out on a great opportunity when he let
a chance slip through his hands. His mind
at the time was more on his Grandmother's
Yorkshire Puddings, rather than concentrating
on the game.
The "Champagne Moment" went to Alan Crutch,
when he dived down low and held on tightly
to the catch of the day. He was duly applauded
by his on looking team mates. John Baughan
also had success with the ball, by first seeing
off Will Myrrh (60) before mopping up the
tail. Accordingly, Rossie Priory came up 40
runs short in their run chase.
