Stainborough C.C. flew the flag for Barnsley
in fine style during a tour of Dundee.
The side were treated to a great reception
by their Scottish hosts and enjoyed a series
of terrific cricket matches.
Taking first knock in their 20 Over game
against Rossie Priory, Stainborough got
off to a flyer with 87 runs coming for the
first wicket in just 10 Overs, thanks to
Richard Mills (37) and Phil Archer (39).
There was a mini collapse until a late stand
of 40 between Alan Crutch (18 n.o.) and
Ian Fletcher (16 n.o.) saw Boro' through
to 147-5.
In reply, Rossie were dismissed for 122,
with Archer (3-15), Rushforth (2-11)and
Baughan (2-23) doing the damage.
Following the abandonded game against Strathmore,
Stainborough played 1985 National Village
champions Freuchie, who in 40 Overs reached
148-4. The bowling of Henri Londt (3-39),
Matthew Rushforth (1-36) and some excellent
fielding helped to restrict a very powerful
batting line-up.
Despite losing early wickets, Stainborough
took up the challenge with Richard Mills
(45) and Ray Cooper (34) putting on 63 for
the fourth wicket. Londt (11) and Pepper
(11) moved the score along until the reintroduction
of Scottish international Gourloy (4-46)
saw Stainborough 142-7 just fall short,
despite an excellent 18 n.o. by Matthew
Rushforth.
Ian Fletcher was voted "Tourer of
the Year"
