South Kirby v Stainborough 27/06/09 13.30
Weather; humid/overcast Wicket; hard/green South Kirby 180-5 Stainborough 183-5 'Boro travelled to Kirby in much need of building on the
previous weeks win against Fairburn. The toss proved a good one to lose as
the skipper admitted to not having the fogiest what to do had he won!
After the captain had bowled 7 overs and taken 1 for 3 he appeared more
than happy to be rubbish at tossing! Matty was supported by a rapid spell
from Tom 'muscles' Reid that didn't get what it deserved as the Kirby
openers played and missed more times than you can shake a stick. Reid did
get the wicket he deserved when Matty accepted a much more difficult
chance at mid off than the one he had dropped a few overs earlier. The
Kirby run rate was way behind what they would have expected but Percival
(32) and a beligerent knock from Wolsey (73no) set Stainborough a total of
180 thanks in no small part to the economical bowling of P.Archer's slow
left arm and D.Kershaw's medium pace.
Stainborough's response was solid with P.Hanson (24) and B.McClee (62) laying a solid foundation on which to build which A.Clarke (17) and P.Archer (45no) duly did before J.Cooper (out to a good 'un) and J.Malkin (out to a bad 'un) caused a little worry! Enter Liam McFadyn to steady the ship, who along with the senior pro lead 'boro to a comfortable victory by 5 wickets. |
